Navigating the Transition: Livery Pack Updates for MSFS 2024

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Marketplace is now available, and many of you have been asking about the status of my livery packs. First off, I want to express my gratitude for your continued support and enthusiasmโ€”it means the world to me!

Whatโ€™s Happening with My Livery Packs?

With the transition from MSFS 2020 to MSFS 2024, there have been significant changes under the hood that affect liveries. While Microsoft and Asobo had assured us that existing add-ons would be largely compatible, this has proven to be woefully inaccurate. The majority of my livery packs are not currently compatible with MSFS 2024.

One of the major roadblocks is Asoboโ€™s decision to switch to a new customized container for an industry-standard texture format without releasing details of the customization. Additionally, they have revised the model compilation container, preventing review of the model, which further complicates updates. This has significantly hindered my ability to test and update my liveries.

Current Compatibility Status

  • Ju52 Livery Packs โ€“ Partially compatible. However, there is a known issue with registrations displaying when they should be hidden. This is an issue on Asoboโ€™s side that they are working to rectify. Once confirmed resolved, these will be updated and released at NO additional charge.
  • T-6, Mustang, Cessna 172, 208, King Air, XCub, and F/A-18E Livery Packs โ€“ Not compatible at this time. These should have been the easiest to update, but due to the aforementioned changes by Asobo, I am unable to even test them until this roadblock is overcome.
  • Livery Packs for DC Designs, CJ Simulations, Flying Iron, and Big Radials Aircraft โ€“ These are pending review now that their products have started being released for MSFS 2024. I will assess compatibility and determine what work is needed.

What to Expect Moving Forward

  • Paused Development of New Products โ€“ I have currently halted development of new products for MSFS 2024, except for projects where I am working directly with aircraft developers. I still have a number of products that were still in the pipeline for 2020 that I intend to complete, but their compatibility with 2024 will be once again limited based on the information above.
  • Ongoing Compatibility Assessments โ€“ I still intend to update all my products for MSFS 2024, but the process has been made exponentially more difficult.
  • Community Feedback & Updates โ€“ As I continue navigating these challenges, Iโ€™ll provide updates as progress is made. Your feedback is always welcome.

The Futureโ€ฆ?

I remain committed to making my liveries available for MSFS 2024, but this transition has been far more challenging than anticipated due to a lack of foresight and clear disengagement from the community by Asobo and Microsoft. I appreciate your patience and support as I work through these barriers. Stay tuned for further updates, and in the meantime, Iโ€™d love to hear your thoughtsโ€”let me know if you have any questions or requests!
